Medicine by Nature, For the People

When I first began pursuing my curiosity into herbal healing, our family's need for effective, affordable, and safe medicinal care was the inspiration for my studies. It is indeed empowering to know that I can attend to our family's routine health needs in a loving and sensitive environment.

Wonderfully gifted and wise herbalist Susun Weed shares her views on herbalism as the "people's medicine" in this YouTube video:

Timeless Healing for Post-Modern Times

Welcome to Village Herbal and my inaugural post! This blog is a space for you to join me in a journey of revitalized health and wellness. The more I learn and discover I will share with you as I continue on my path towards becoming a master teaching herbalist and healer.

What makes herbal healing timeless? People have consumed and planned consumption of plants for food and medicine since at least the dawn of agriculture. Can the simplicity of eating right and supporting our health through botanical medicine really be all it takes to achieve our wellness goals? I like to think so, but our 21st century lifestyle makes things far more complicated. There is much to undo, re-do, and just plain do, in order to get us where we need to be: at a place where we are the arbiters of our health journey.

Ok, so, take a deep breath. Release.

What I'm talking about is not radical actually. We'll take baby steps. One moment at a time. To begin, let's start thinking and talking about what it takes to start this journey. Do you have to give up your favorite food? Do you have to abruptly alter your kids' diets?

Renowned herbalist Susun Weed, says a firm "no" to drastically changing our diets in the first steps. And Sandra Ellis, in her book Dr. Mom's Guide to Healthy Living, also advocates baby steps on the road to health. Deliberate, consistent changes though are smart moves to make to begin nourishing ourselves all the way down to the cellular level.
